Sasha was a lady who lived on her own in a large house. Prior to settling in Australia with her late husband she had been a ballerina in her native Russia. Sasha always presented herself beautifully poised but years of contortion had left her almost crippled. As her nurse I was concerned about her isolation at home as she hardly left the house. Sasha always assured me that this was not a problem as she always had her husband for company & that she often had dinner parties. Sasha would always cook & prepare meals for two, & put on quite a feast if she was expecting “guests” for dinner. This was a strange ritual to watch but what always surprised me was that neither I nor her personal carer ever saw any of the food going to waste or being thrown out…..bizarre.
