ETIQUETTE

Being a girl from the sleepy suburbs of the "Deep North" (Qld), when I moved south, especially when I moved to "South" Yarra, I noticed just how nasal my voice was (my northern drawl) & how generally unrefined I was as a woman. I have since done an online course in etiquette & I am currently reading Emily Post's famous book "Etiquette: the definitive guide to manners". When I ordered the book online I expected something you could read through in a couple of hours - it is 850 pages long & is A4 in size, IT'S A BLASTED TEXT BOOK! I have a long way to go if I'm to fit in around here, but then the more you change the less you feel right?

Melbourne is such an eclectic place- be yourself Sue (you will find others like you when you stop looking at those that are not just like you!) you are lovely as you are. It is hard- I should know, I work in beauty and surround myself with perfect looking women that indulge in the wonders of cosmetic surgery on a regular basis. I have needed to colour my grey hairs for weeks but I haven't- I have different priorities as do you. Melbourne has a great creative energy- such a great mix of people. Try not to be sucked in by the temptation to be like your immediate neighbours, look outside the (neighboring) square! I must say I hated living in New Farm Brisbane- so hip and happening. Not the best feeling when one feels it is a prerequisite to wear lipstick and her best heels just to pick up some milk from Coles! Give the first bit of advice a shot or consider a move to a quainter place!!!
