EYE ON THE SPARROW

I think it was Bryce Courtney, a writer who I’m not particularly fond of, who once wrote: “Poetry is no more important than football; it should be but it’s not”. Likewise I say “Man is no more important than a sparrow; he should be but he’s not”. I hate how human-centred we are, how the only way to protect some species is through ecotourism such as the hunting of wild game in Africa. Does not a forest or a coral reef continue to exist whether we lay eyes on it or not?

I remember when I took this picture; I was with my brother & his daughter eating lunch in Hobart. This little bird tottered over to us & began to join in with the conversation…& enjoyed a feed I might add. A joining of spirits…. us & our new found friend, the moment was just lovely.
