#1 FLYING

Today I thought I’d talk about dreams; not those that you aspire to but the type that visit when you close your eyes at night. Ever since I can recall I have been plagued by dreams, some you wouldn’t even ascribe such a benign term to – “night terrors” would be more much more befitting.

I’ll start with flying dreams, now I have these quite frequently - they can be wonderful but can also be terrifying. The wonderful ones include me soaring through the sky, usually at great speed surveying all that is below me & landing on the rooftops of the world. In the terrifying flying dreams I ‘hover’ rather than fly, desperately using all the strength in my body to keep from being dragged back down to earth - like the sky is a sea & I am drowning in it.

In my flying dreams it is almost always night time, but one I do recall that took place in a daylight setting occurred when I was 24 years old & terribly sick with the chickenpox. As is the case with most viruses of its type the older you are when you get it the worse it can be. The family doctor had been out that day to see me, stating that I may require hospitalisation if I did not start to improve.

It was more like a lucid dream, as I woke up inside the dream. I opened my eyes & I was lying on the edge of a great cliff face, so close to the edge that the earth beneath me was starting to break away – I laid there frozen with fear. Then a great bird came down from the sky above & scooped me up ever so gently. We soared through this vast blue expanse, dipped into the ocean & got wet, then touched the face of the clouds. I was laughing the whole time. This great bird then placed me safely on the shoreline & took off - up, up till I could no longer see it. I was safe, I was saved.

That morning I woke up feeling better, the fever had left my body & I began to get well again.
