WALL STREET

I've just been reading the online news & it's still all doom & gloom on Wall Street. Over the last few days Bush has finally admitted that the United states is in recession, with some economists even predicting a global depression, stating that we are going through the most serious global financial crisis since the Great Depression. A 700 billion dollar bailout plan is on the table & under consideration - 700 BILLION! I don't understand it all, but I do know that people are running scared.

In a recent poll, climate change was found to no longer be the chief concern of global citizens - it is now financial security. Apparently water is high up on the list too......aren't water & climate change inextricably linked? September is usually one of the wettest months of the year in Melbourne yet the rainfall we received this last month has been the lowest in over 100 years (since data has been collected). For some people this sparks a genuine concern, yet I'm sure that for others it means that they can't wash their car twice a week & their lawns wont look as lush.

It all reminds me of the above poster that the Greens put out last year - There is "no economy on a dead planet!"

Speaks so much- yes we are not indestructible. We are not superheros (not yet anyway). In my subconscious is planted seeds that we live for eternity (taught to me by the church). Sometimes I think this worldview affects the way we choose to govern this earth i.e. that our earth is reduced to being a stepping stone to heaven. If god and the bible are true, we need to think more upon the command to look after the earth.
