DRIVE THE COLD WINTER AWAY

Well I haven’t been in the best frame of mind today. It doesn’t help when Melbourne seems to have been thrust back into the depths of winter. But it has got warmer as the day’s progressed. I took myself off to see “the Duchess” this afternoon and found myself pretty enthralled by it. Apparently the film is based on the true life events of Georgiana Cavendish, the Duchess of Devonshire. One very sad tale indeed; she reminded me of Newland Archer in Edith Wharton’s “the Age of Innocence” - the desire & passion to live with reckless abandonment yet having to live such a stifling & repressed existence. I suppose we can all relate to that, to a certain extent.
